A quick note about submitting contact information when pursuing work in the industry (online and off):

Talent without agents should consider using a cell phone number initially to protect private contact information. Once you have agent or manager, she will affix her agency contact info to your headshot. Calls for industry related work would go to the agent or manager. The agent or manager would then contact you.

Eventually, most headshots will end up in someone’s trash bin. Rejected submissions and dated headshots could end up in an agent or casting person’s garbage. Not everyone shreds old documents. You could be at risk if the wrong person gets their hands on your personal information.

I know of more than a few industry pros who have admitted to doing a bit of ‘dumpster diving’ to get insider info on a project or potential connection (don’t laugh or be too shocked – it happens more often than most ‘divers’ care to admit…LOL!).

But what if the person rummaging around through an agent or casting director’s circular files is a stalker? Or worse? Avoid giving personal information unless submitting to a known, trusted source.

Parents of kids in the business: Be doubly cautious when giving personal contact information.
